test anchors

To create an anchor in WordPress, so that you can have people click on text on the top of the page and jump down to more content on the same page, follow the steps below. I’ve set up a bit of a sample for you both to look at; if this isn’t how you want to structure the pages with speaker and judge bios, just let me know. There are other ways to do this that could work. Thanks!

1. Imagine that you’ve set up a page with speaker bios and the URL is: http://www.cheesesociety.org/test-anchors

2. On the page itself, you’ll presumably have a bulleted list of speaker names at top, with full bios lower down on the page. When someone clicks on a speaker’s name at top, it should take them down to the full bio. On the “Visual” view in WordPress, this bulleted list of names would look like this:

• Jane Doe
• Bob Smith
• Jo Schmo

3. You should first set up the page in “Visual” view with all of your content. Then, in the “HTML” view of the page in WordPress, you’ll need to add code before each speaker’s name. The code is:

SPEAKER NAME

For instance,

JANE DOE

(The speaker name in the HTML code cannot have any spaces.)

For the example of the bulleted names above, I added code to demonstrate what you’ll need to do in the HTML view in WordPress:

4. Then, wherever the full speaker bio is listed on the page, you’ll need to add the following code right before the speaker’s name:

So the HTML view would look like this:

Jane Doe
Jane Doe is a cheesemonger at Murray’s in New York City and is really excited to serve as a judge for the 2012 ACS Conference & Competition. She has lots and lots of experience. Blah blah blah….
