Mike is co-owner and president of FireFly Farms Creamery & Market, a nationally and internationally awarded manufacturer of goat’s milk cheeses. FireFly Farms is dedicated to the art of cheese making and sustainable local food economies. Its handmade and carefully aged products are available throughout the mid-Atlantic region of the United States.
Mike is committed to community service. He contributes his energies to various non-profit boards. He currently serves on the board of FreshFarms Markets, a DC-based organization dedicated to creating market opportunities for local farmers and producers, the board of the Muscarelle Museum of Art, and the Diversity & Inclusion Council of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC).
Statement of Intent:
I am honored and pleased to be on the 2012 ballot for the American Cheese Society board of directors. As an ACS board member, my focus would be the development of vibrant regional cheese maker communities built and managed to support ACS members and serve their needs. Meeting these needs is more urgent than ever as cheese makers work to successfully meet new food safety and regulatory standards, leverage dramatically changing marketing and media environments to achieve their business development goals, and participate effectively in their own rapidly evolving local food communities.
