My name is James and I am a turophile. My journey as a cheesemonger began 17 year ago at the Franklin St. Whole Foods Market in San Francisco, CA, learning about, inspecting, and tasting every cheese that passed over our counter. After a brief residence in Seattle, WA, my husband and I moved to Fort Collins, CO, where we legally married in 2016 after 23 years together.

Here in colorful Colorado, I have continued my career with King Soopers, where I have been given tremendous support and opportunities to continue challenging myself to be a better monger. King Soopers afforded me the time and resources to take the extensive ACS CCP® Exam, and in 2014, I was awarded the title of ACS Certified Cheese Professional®. I was honored to have the chance to represent King Soopers in the 2015 New York Cheesemonger Invitational, where I was fortunate to be considered welcome among so many of our community’s rock stars. The experience left me entirely exhausted and highly validated for having made the life choices that have brought me this far.

This year, it’s “The Oscars of Cheese” in Denver! I hope to serve our community well as one of your ACS Official Conference Cheesemongers. This is going to be the toughest thing I have done so far as a professional cheesemonger, and hopefully I can help to make this event appear flawless. Have a great time, everyone.

King Soopers

In 1947, Lloyd J. King opened the first King Soopers store in Arvada, Colorado. His mission was to offer shoppers “friendly service, value, cleanliness and quality.” A few years later, King Soopers had grown to nine stores, and it was acquired by the Dillon Companies in 1957. In 1983, Dillons merged into Kroger.
