Artisan Cheesemaking Survey

MIT Anthropologist and ACS member Heather Paxson is conducting a nationwide survey of artisan cheesemaking businesses as part of her ongoing anthropological research into the current "renaissance" in American artisan cheesemaking. Many ACS members will be invited to complete this survey, which represents the first social science survey of its kind. Socioeconomic and other aggregate, anonymous data on artisan cheesemakers will be made available to the ACS, VIAC and other interested organizations. The more respondents who complete the survey, the better the data will be!

Prof. Paxson is writing a book based on her research, which includes interviews and on-site visits with cheesemakers in the dairy regions of New England, Wisconsin, and northern California, as well as observations at numerous ACS conferences, cheese tastings and festivals, etc. While the book will not be published before 2012 (such is the way of academic publishing), articles based on preliminary research are available on her website: click here.

Yes You Can!

That's right, ACS member Laini Fondiller of Lazy Lady Farm has made a cheese in honor of the new President himself.  The half-pound brick of cheese is made from Jersey milk and cream and has a washed rind.  To read more about this cheese and her other politically inspired cheese creations, check out this recent article.
