Bio: Cathy is the Director of the Specialty Cheese, Deli, and Kosher Deli Departments at Wegmans Food Markets, headquartered in Rochester, NY. In her role, Cathy provides vision for these areas of the company and travels extensively to find new products and concepts to grow these unique businesses. Wegmans is a family owned, 84-store supermarket chain with stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, and Massachusetts. In her 21 years with the progressive food store, Cathy has held numerous positions in both the Store Operations environment and at corporate. Her most anticipated multi-year project, Wegmans Cheese Caves, opened in April 2014. Cathy grew up on a 700-acre dairy farm in Lima, NY, showed and marketed Registered Holsteins, and was an avid 4-H member. She is a 1989 graduate of Cornell University with a degree in Applied Economics and Business Management. She resides in Rush, NY with her husband, John, and daughter, Mary.
Statement of Intent: After growing up on a dairy farm, I always wanted to try and find a way to get back, or at least give back, to the industry. Working with our cheese department at Wegmans has allowed for some, but not all of this endeavor. My role as a retailer, along with my background, will help drive change in the artisan cheese industry through work with the ACS. We need to continue to create a strong, unified voice if we want to see the artisan cheese world grow in the USA without restrictions. Many areas interest me and I will use my resources where the organization believes they can be best utilized. I love cheese, the industry, and discovering the best ways to grow the business, together!
